YSL Lipsticks were one of the first luxury lipsticks I ever fell head over heels for. Everything from the slick gold packaging to the click of the lids enticed me. Not to mention the gorgeous shade ranges YSL offer.
YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks offer an entire army of shades and this drool worthy range is the one I’m going to share with you today. There truly is a shade for everyone but I’ve picked my top 5. Let’s start with the top left, shade 09 Rose Stiletto, which I would describe as a mauvey pink with a purple undertone. This is my perfect everyday shade, something that is really similar to my natural lip colour but just better. If you’re brave and up for more of a pop of colour, Shade 07 Le Fuschia, on the top right, would be my choice. It’s bright, bold but not too in your face. It’s a fun colour while still making me feel like I’m not going too overboard and am still playing within the lines. Even though shade 17 Rose Dahlia, (bottom left) is ultimately more of a summer shade I just love wearing these sorts of colours around this time of year when my skin is looking a bit lacklustre and grey. It instantly lifts my skin tone and brightens my complexion. Lastly a daring vampy shade, 54 Prune Avenue, (bottom right). There’s something so sexy and powerful about this shade. I like applying a little on my lips and dabbing it in for more of a stain look or going all out like I’ve done above and pairing it with some serious winged liner.
Onto the formula, which is truly my favourite part about the lipsticks. They’re so blendable which make them some of the easiest lipsticks to apply and even the more intense shades are not intimidating to use. They’re a dream to apply if you’re going for anything from a light layer of colour to a more intense high-pigmented look. I find a hydrating yet long lasting lipstick rare to come across but these do just that. They’re extremely balmy feeling on the lips and the finish sits somewhere bang in the middle between matte and glossy, giving an overall radiant, plump look.
In terms of the rest of my makeup when wearing a statement lip I usually keep it really simple, avoiding any major colour elsewhere on my face. Here I’m wearing my final favourite, shade 67 Rouge Heroine, a classic red. I kept my eyes neutral with shades from the Couture Mono Eyeshadows, using shade 4 all over the lid, shade 13 in the crease and shade 10 to enhance my liquid eyeliner. Plus a little bit of some Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara. This one is actually described as a black burgundy shade and although it’s extremely subtle I do really feel like it compliments my brown eyes. I completely neglect blush on the cheeks and stick to cream bronzer as I find it looks the most natural. I’ve barely put the Les Sahariennes Healthy Glow Balm Powder down (if that wasn’t obvious by the state of it!) as it gives an bronzey glow to the cheeks plus an extra bit of definition.
