How to get a cat eye look with YSL Beauty

One of my most frequently asked questions is, what are your top beauty products if you were stuck on a desert island. My answer always includes mascara because to me, big bold eyelashes never go out of style. Coats of mascara has the ability to work magic in brightening up and defining an entire face. Plus, defined lashes look great with every makeup look especially something heavy like a smokey eye or winged liner. There’s countless black mascaras on the market but there’s only one that’s blacker that black. So black it practically looks like you’ve got pigment on your lashes. Meet the YSL Mascara Vinyl Couture, which includes a completely new formula where the black colour of the mascara is really intense, deep and glossy. I’ve been wearing the shade 01 I’m The Clash but alongside that there’s a gold, blue and even pink! The medium, closely packed bristles coat each lash and leave them looking volumized with a high-shine finish. The formula is really fluid so there’s plenty of room to work with the mascara and build up the look at intensity of lashes. My tip would be to wiggle the wand at the bottom of the lash and pull upwards for a more voluminous effect.

Being such a buildable formula you could apply a coat or two for something more natural but my favourite way is to really enhance my eyes by building up the mascara and pairing it with a bold cat eye look, which I’m going to share today. I’ve narrowed it down to under 10 steps that will have you meow-ing in minutes.

First step is to prime the eyes, personally I have quite visible veins on my lids so I like to even them out with a corrective primer like YSL Couture Eye Primer, which also helps eyeshadow apply more easily and last longer too.

In this look I’m starting out by taking the champagne shade (5th from the left) and sweeping it all over the lid, then using warm chocolate shade on a fluffy brush and blending that into the crease of my eye to enhance the shape. To highlight my brow bone I use the lightest shade and apply that just in the centre, you wouldn’t think this makes much of a difference but try it and take a picture and your eyes will look instantly lifted.

I start by placing it from the corner of my eye to the corner of my brow. Using the YSL Shocking False Lash Effect Eyeliner starting at the wing in the outer corner and working my way inwards, then connecting the wing to the line. A step that makes all the difference in the overall intensity of the look is using the YSL Dessin Du Regard Stylo Waterproof Eyeliner, along my upper and lower waterline, I always find it easiest to look down into a mirror whilst doing this. Being waterproof makes the liner extremely long lasting and perfect for ensuring a smudge proof look, especially on hot summer days. Lastly to finish off the eyeshadow I’ll use the darkest shade from the Couture Variation Palette and sweep that along the lower lash line to add a smokey, sultry effect.

Finish off the look with a few coats of YSL Mascara Vinyl Couture, and don’t forget your eyebrows too! I used the Couture Brow Palette in 02. Using the angled brush that comes in the kit, mixing the three powders to create my custom colour that works perfectly for my brows. I find the powder fomula look the most natural on my brows and the angled brush helps create the appearance of fake hairs. I told you it wasn’t hard…
